Frequently Asked Questions

Eliminator Noise Filter

1) Can this filter rid alternator whine from my radios?

Yes, but this filter is rated at 10 amps for alternator whine, install this filter at the affected radio or intercom. Then install our Alternator filter to rid high frequency RF.

2) I can hear strobe noise or rotating beacon noise on my radios. Will your filter rid these noises from my audio?

We have studied results for this application and nothing on the market works as effective as the Eliminator. The closer you can install the Eliminator to the source of the noise, the better. For strobe or rotating beacon noise install the Eliminator on the power line to the power supply of the strobe or beacon. For separate power supplies more than one filter may be required.

3) How do you know if the electronic noise is radiating or traveling on the power line?

To identify which type of electronic noise you are experiencing you can do a variety of things.

  1. Try operating a handheld radio in the aircraft with the aircraft power, engines, etc. on. If you hear the noise on the portable you have radiated noise.
  2. Power up your radio with an external battery of some type, getting the effected component off ships power. If the noise goes away buy an Eliminator. If the noise continues, you have radiated noise. If the culprit is the alternator, buy our Alternator filter; this filter can be effective in eliminating a wide range of radiated alternator noise.

4) Are these filters legal for installation on type-certificated aircraft?

Yes, the filters are FAA/PMA approved.

5) What type of applications have been successful in the eliminators application?

  1. Silencing rotating beacon / strobe noise on audio systems.
  2. Ridding 400 cycle AC noise from in-flight entertainment systems.
  3. Eliminating power line noise on Radar and Storm scopes.
  4. Quieting door seal motor noise on audio systems.
  5. Misc. motor noise on audio systems.

Docking Station

1) Do I need an antenna to use my GPS at home?

No, our docking station is pre-wired in the "take home mode" or the "simulator mode." You will have to input your groundspeed into your receiver to simulate the satellite signal. This will allow you to "fly" through your flight plan and the rest of your receiver’s database.

2) Do I need a laptop computer to update my Bendix/King GPS database?

No, with the Commander 2000K you can update your database via laptop or desktop computer. We have data cables for these GPS units appropriate for the model GPS you own.

3) I own both the Garmin 430 and the 530 units. Can I operate both of these units from one docking station?

Yes, you can purchase the docking station for the Garmin 530, which is the taller unit. The Garmin 430 will slide into this tray but will have a small gap at the top of the tray. The connector for these units is the same.

4) Will my Commander 2000K that I purchased for the KLN 89B operate my new KLN 94 color GPS?

Yes, this is a direct replacement for the KLN 89B. If you have another Bendix/King GPS you will have to purchase another connector.

5) Does my GPS require forced air-cooling?

This depends. Some units have an internal cooling fan; others are low current receivers that don’t generate much heat.

Ask your Lone Star Aviation technical support representative if you have a question regarding your make and model.
